The Story

Terminal 2E

As I embark on a new journey away from home, I find myself flooded with a range of emotions. “Terminal 2E” is a reflection of these feelings, capturing the essence of the transition I’m experiencing.
Leaving behind the chaos and turmoil of Beirut, I set out towards the peaceful city of Cherbourg, seeking a new order in life. The transition is tough, and my heart was heavy with grief and sadness as I stepped into the unknown.
Despite the pain and uncertainty, there is a sense of hope that shines through the fog. As I make my way forward, there is a glimmer of something good emerging from the vagueness and chaos. This music captures that bittersweet feeling, a reminder that even in the midst of transition and change, there is a sense of beauty and possibility waiting to be discovered.

The 8am stroll

As soon as I arrived in Cherbourg, I was eager to explore the city and its surroundings. Despite the lockdown, I decided to take a stroll through the empty streets and immerse myself in the unique soundscape of the city and gain a deeper understanding of the area.
As I opened the door and stepped onto the empty streets, I was captivated by the serene sound of the city. The peaceful stillness of the air around me gave me a sense of inner calm and tranquillity.
As I walked, I was struck by the contrast of the landscape - the rugged wilderness, the vast ocean, the bustling industrial port, the towering shipyards, and the imposing fishing boats. Each element was a testament to the city's rich history and unique character. The experience left me feeling more connected to the city and its diverse landscape.

Départ

In “La cité de la Mer”, the old Cherbourg maritime station, my mind drifts back to the past. This was once the last stop for countless people, all driven by the hope of a brighter future, their eyes set on a distant horizon with no turning back. At this point in my life, I find myself in a similar position as those who came before me. As I prepare to leave my comfort zone, I feel a strong connection to those who once stood where I stand now. I recall the day I left my home with hope for a brighter future.
As I stand here, I find myself transported back in time, trying to envision what those who stood in this place must have experienced. I try to imagine the emotions that filled their hearts as they prepared for a new adventure, feeling both excitement and fear. I can almost sense the difficulty in saying goodbye to loved ones as the moment of departure drew near. The sound of the sirens grew louder, reminding them that they were about to embark on a long and perilous journey.
Families hugged each other tightly, trying to hold back tears as they said their goodbyes. Some held hands and whispered words of encouragement, promising to reunite once the journey was over.
This moment of departure, with all its conflicting emotions, is what inspired my music, "Départ". It is a tribute to those who have taken the leap of faith and pursued their dreams, no matter how uncertain the path may be. It reminds us that in order to move forward and embrace the unknown, we must be willing to leave behind what we know, no matter how difficult it may be.

Poser bagages

After a 3-month pause in Cherbourg, a town that served as a gentle landing spot after leaving my home country, Lebanon, I am hitting the road once more. The prospect of departing Cherbourg feels like being trapped in an unending cycle, repeating the same pattern over and over again.
But now, I'm less anxious about the unknown future. Perhaps, I'm getting familiar with the nomadic way of life. The act of leaving Cherbourg leaves me with a sense of nostalgia; this place gave me a sense of ease and helped me transition smoothly. However, I know it's time to move on and discover a new place to settle down, a place we can truly call home.
This track reflects the experiences of those who leave their home country, making their way across new lands and cultures in search of belonging.
